It is the start of a new renovation for Zou Build and we have decided that we are going to share this one with you in a little more detail than a few before and after photos. As a builder, we live and breath renovations – they are like second nature for us. But we want to share with you the ups and the downs of renovating and also the satisfaction that we get once the finished product is past onto our clients!
Building in underneath their existing house to create a guest bedroom, laundry, bathroom and building a new carport. There is nothing more exciting than a blank canvas ready to be transformed.
Week 1 – Plan, Prepare and Frame
The first day on site is generally about planning and preparing. The most important thing about renovating, building or with any project is organising your trades to come in at the right times. Day one on site usually consists of a constant flow of trades to check out the work ahead – plumber, electrician, tiler, roofer just to name a few! Another important part, is making sure your materials are being delivered in time for these trades. It also includes any demolition that needs to occur.
The next stage is the frame.
Once the frame has been erected, the electrician and plumber are able to complete stage one of their work. The floor was also battened out ready for the flooring to be laid in the guest bedroom. We used 80x19mm mixed colour tongue and groove flooring supplied by Wilson Timbers.
All in all, a productive first week. Looking forward to the week ahead – bring on plastering and tiling!
